Saxophonist Emma Johnson (2012 finalist) performs with NYJO.

Emma auditioned for the National Youth Jazz Orchestra in January. The auditions took place at the RNCM and applicants were to perform a piece of their own choice (with an accompanying quartet), as well as a sight reading piece. Emma was lucky enough to get a place on the deputy list and has since been to London to practice with NYJO at one of their Saturday morning rehearsals, following which she was given the opportunity to perform with NYJO at The Barbican as part of an ABRSM event, Shine which celebrates music education. NYJO performed during the event alongside the Southbank Symphonia as well as ABRSM scholars, Josie Duncan, Jess Gillam, Sheku Kanneh-Mason and Ben Goldscheider.
