2012 Competition
Four musicians took part in the first final of the Pendle Young Musicians’ Bursary in October 2012. They were Jade Brett (voice), Emma Johnson (saxophone), Samantha Oxborough (voice) and Laura Schofield (voice). The winner was Laura Schofield who gave an excellent, varied performance showing her vocal dexterity tremendously. The finalists all received a share in the £12,000 prize money to help towards tuition, instruments and music courses.
“The bursary has given me the chance to further my career tremendously. At the end of my first year studying at Birmingham conservatoire, I was asked to represent the college in the Kathleen Ferrier bursary for young singers. Furthermore, I was given the opportunity to attend the Abingdon summer school for solo singers two years running. I believe the bursary has been a huge part of me moving on to complete my BMus in vocal studies to the best of my abilities.” Samantha Oxborough
